DREAMING BODY. BUTOH DANCE WORKSHOP PDF Print E-mail

Butoh dance evolved in the middle of the 20th century in Japan, at the crossroad of cultures. The Eastern mentality – with its meditation techniques, deepening the nature of mind-body and yugen – mysterious beauty and the avant-garde art of the West – its rebellion against fossilized forms. It searches for what is authentic in the body, opens contact to the Self and the unity of the Universe in the eternal cycle of life and death. Butoh dance is not based on any technique but on the experience of the butoh tai (butoh body) and the specific quality of movement, created when the meditative state has been reached.

Subjects: Hokōtai – walking body – one step between life and death, beginners Body, Mu – emptiness, Un-presence, Body without organs, thinking Body – improvisations.

MEDITATIVE DANCE PDF Print E-mail

Meditation can be an element of contemporary life. Its essence is awareness, being aware of what is happening outside and inside of you. However, to do this you need to be in a state of relaxation. Meditation offers a way of calming the mind, being here and now, cheerful, a spontaneous experiencing of ones own life; life is an inner journey, finding oneself, accepting ourselves the way we are.

During the workshop, the participants will be able to experience different forms of active, dynamic meditation, techniques reflecting the wisdom of numerous traditions and the discoveries of modern psychology, which are a response to the needs of contemporary man. Each person is different; each person relates to different methods and each person will find something to his likening.

BODY EXPRESSION. SOMA: BODY-MIND PDF Print E-mail
Mime and dance is another way of thinking about the world, it is a deep experience of the essence of events and occurrences surrounding us. A mime artist and a dancer purposefully give up words and crossing the barriers of language transmit to us the inner world of a human being. In silence, they touch those experiences impossible to communicate through words, as the body is able of expressing what is limited, paralyzed, deprived of mystery through language.

Mime and dance is not pretence, but work on oneself demanding honesty and frankness. It is an ability to think through the body thereby to feel the essence of each occurrence and incident.

Our model of a consumer society and the compulsory fast pace of life in this modern world are the cause of our contact with our surrounding reality being very superficial. They also induce a break in the contact of our own body and its sensuality which is followed by an isolation from emotions.

I propose workshops which combine physical training, sense training and the teaching of mime techniques and dance improvisation which contribute to the development of body awareness, of experiencing and getting to know oneself, conquering one’s moving patterns, supporting openings to our own creative potential and the need of expression, as well as developing the ability of giving form to these enhancements.

Working with the body always contains a psychological aspect. Experiencing different qualities of movement (energy, rhythm, time, dynamics) cannot be separated from feelings and personal experiences. Experimenting with energy, exploring the starting points of movement, its fluidity, its many varieties of dynamics and emotions connected with them, experiencing the abilities of own body expression, own body imagination and openness, stimulates creative possibilities.

It is a process of deepening self creation and the development of the abilities of each participant based on self-acceptance and the acceptance of our own body. Dance improvisation and the practice of the techniques of mime used by actors assists in the development of the ability to give (artistic) form its own expression.
